Santa Catalina Island lies off the coast of Long Beach, CA and is one of the Californian Channel Islands. Although only 4,000 people live there, it has around a million tourists visiting each year. The seas around Santa Catalina are full of incredible marine life. Fishing, diving, snorkeling and glass-bottomed boat tours are among the most popular activities. The Strait between the island and the mainland USA is just over 20 miles (33km). This swim starts at Blue Cove Bay, by Two Harbors Beach and finishes next to Point Fermin Lighthouse in San Pedro, CA.
