Ascension Island is an isolated volcanic island, south of the Equator in the South Atlantic Ocean. It is about 1,000 miles (1,600 km) from the coast of Africa and 1,400 miles (2,300 km) from the coast of South America. The waters surrounding the island are full of important wildlife including some of the largest Marlin ever caught and one of the biggest populations of green turtles.
This swim starts and ends at Long Beach in the capital of Georgetown. From there you'll head North past English Bay and around past Porpoise Point. You'll continue South East past Boatswain Bird Island then head around the south coast of the island before heading back north to the start point.
